Dambulla Cave Temple

Dambulla Cave Temple also known as Golden Temple of Dambulla is a world heritage site in Sri Lanka.   The temple was built during the time of King Walagamba.  During a South Indian invasion the king had to abandon his Anuradhapura Kingdom for years  and King Valagamba was hiding inside the cave.   After regaining the kingdom of Anuradhapura and becoming the King, as to pay the gratefulness for his safe place, he converted those caves into Buddhist Temple.



Sigiriya also known as Sinhagiri (the lion rock) is an ancient rock fortress in Sri Lanka.  According to the history this site was selected by King Kasyapa as for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of a huge lion. The name of this place is derived from the structure of the rock, Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king’s death. After that it used as a Buddhist monastery.

Knuckles Mountain Range 


Knuckles Mountain Range also known as Dumbara Kandu Watiya takes its name from a series of recumbent folds and peaks in the west of the massif which resemble the knuckles of clenched fist when viewed from certain locations in the area.  Knuckles Mountain Range is surrounded by small villages including paddy fields and other vegetable plantations.  The most of the houses people have planted type of Banana called “Rath Kehel”.  In addition to that there are small water falls in the jungle.  This is a very good place to visit  and stay at least one night in the jungle.

Aluvihare Rock Temple

The Aluvihare Rock Temple also known as  Matale Alu Viharaya is a sacred Buddhist temple built by King Devanampiyatissa.  Aluvihara is the place where the Buddhist Damma  was written by monks who lived in the caves at this Aluvihara Rocks.   It is a very special Buddhist location with beautiful Buddha statues and paintings.  And also there is a area with wall paintings depicting the punishments one gets in hell for committing different types of sins or bad karma.

Sembuwaththa Lake


Sembuwaththa Lake is a man made lake created using natural spring water.  It is surrounded by a natural forest and tea plantations.  Next to the lake there is a natural swimming pool which increases the marvelous beauty of Sembuwaththa Lake.

Sera Ella Falls


Sera Ella Falls is a small water fall bodering the Knuckles mountain Range.  Drive way to Sera Ella Falls is a beautiful Puwakpitiya Villege and the river.   This water fall is separated into two sections.  The fall flows throughout the year and its fullest during the months November to March.   Main attractive part in this water fall is cave  behind the fall.   There are facilities to stay over nights under the caves near the water fall.
